Quite often things go the wrong way. That certainly makes you feel bad and maybe, sad. Yet, you keep moving on. However, when things hurt you deeply, making you pretty sad for extended periods, maybe, you are headed for Mental Depression. Doctors call it Reactive Depression. Sometimes, you may feel depressed for no reason, whatsoever. Doctors call it, Endogenous Depression.
Now the question is – What abnormality actually happens in the body (brain) that triggers depression?
Scientific research reveals that it is the deficient production or activity of the three major chemicals in the brain that results in depression. These are – Dopamine, Serotonin, and Nor-epinephrine.
The next question is – What should you do if you land in a Depression?
Obviously, you should consult your family doctor. Or, you may consult a neurologist or psychiatrist, who may advise you on counseling, and prescribe you certain allopathic pills. Alternatively, you may consult an ayurveda doctor, who too will advise you on counseling, and prescribe certain ayurvedic medicines.
Now, you may wonder about the difference between the allopathic and ayurvedic medicines prescribed to you to fight your Depression. Here we explain to you in simple words.
Allopathic medicines are made from chemicals that help you come out of depression through their sedative and antidepressant activities. These medicines have a large number of adverse effects, some of which are quite serious.
Ayurvedic medicines, on the other hand, are natural herbs that act as brain tonics, strengthen the higher (Cognitive) functions of your brain mentally, and thus help you fight depression. These medicines are largely safe and free from the unwanted effects of allopathic medicines.
The good news is, there exist a large number of medicinal herbs quite useful in fighting mental depression. Out of these, the four major herbs found to be quite effective are – Jyotishmati, Akarkara, Vacha, and Gandira.
A huge body of scientific (clinical and experimental) research carried out on these herbs have established their efficacy in the management of mental depression. Grossly, they seem to reinforce the production or activity of the three major chemicals in the brain – Dopamine, Serotonin, and Norepinephrine.
Keeping in view the usefulness of the above-mentioned herbs in fighting Depression, Dr.Vasishth’s has formulated a tablet made from their extracts. We have named as ELEVA Tablet, with the following composition –
- Jyotishmati (Celastrus paniculatus) extract 250 mg
- Akarkara (Anacyclus pyrethrum) extract 150 mg
- Vacha (Acorus calamus) extract 50 mg
- Gandira (Coleus forskohlii) extract 50 mg
We advise the dosage of the ELEVA Tablet as –
Start ELEVA Tablet – 1-2 tablets, 3-6 times a day, on the basis of the severity of mental depression and the body weight of the patient. Obviously, the dose shall be at the higher end in patients above 60 kg or more, or in those having severe depression. On the other hand, the dose shall be at the lower end in patients below 60 kg or in those
with mild to moderate Depression.
On improvement, the dose needs to be tapered off to a minimum required dose. The latter could be continued for many months or years, as per the requirement.
